Why accept USDC on Base

Base is an Ethereum layer-2 network built by Coinbase. USDC is issued on it natively by Circle, fees are tiny, and Coinbase customers can send USDC on Base straight from their accounts, which makes it one of the easiest ways for a customer to pay.

USDC is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle, a US company that publishes regular reports on the reserves backing it. Businesses and institutions often prefer it for that transparency, and it is issued natively on many networks, so customers can usually send it from wherever they hold it.

Good fit for:

  • Customers with Coinbase accounts or the Coinbase Wallet
  • Low-cost USDC payments of any size
  • US customers paying in USDC

How it works with Wolf Pay

  1. Create a payment in your dashboard, with a payment link, or from your server with the API, choosing USDC on Base.
  2. Your customer pays on a hosted checkout that shows the exact amount, the Base deposit address, a QR code and the network in large type, so they send the right coin on the right network.
  3. You get paid. Once the transfer has 20 confirmations (under a minute), the payment is marked paid, your webhook fires, and the amount (minus Wolf Pay's fee) is in your USDC balance, ready to pay out to your own wallet.
curl https://wolf-pay-five.vercel.app/api/v1/payments \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $WOLF_PAY_SECRET_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"amount": "49.00", "currency": "USDC", "network": "base", "order_id": "1001"}'

The response includes a checkout_url to send the customer to. Full reference: API docs.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Only USDC is accepted on Base (no USDT).
  • The address looks like an Ethereum one; the customer must pick Base in their wallet or exchange.
  • The amount has to be sent in full: if a customer's exchange deducts its withdrawal fee from the amount, the payment arrives short and is marked underpaid, with the difference shown.
  • Only send USDC to a USDC payment. Other tokens sent to the address aren't credited to the payment.
