How to accept crypto payments on your website

Three ways to accept crypto and stablecoin payments on a website, from no-code payment links to a plugin to the API, and what to set up before going live.

Updated · Wolf Pay team

Wolf Pay is open in test mode: you can sign up, integrate and run test payments today. Live payments open once our custody partner goes live.

Key points

  • No code: create a payment link and put it behind a "Pay with crypto" button.
  • WooCommerce: install a plugin that adds stablecoins as a payment method and completes orders automatically.
  • Custom site or app: create a payment with one API call, redirect to the hosted checkout, and fulfil the order from a webhook.
  • Accept stablecoins (USDT, USDC) rather than volatile coins, so the price you charge is the price you receive.

The short answer

Sign up with a crypto payment gateway, then connect it in one of three ways: a payment link (no code), a plugin for your store platform, or the API for a custom site. Accept stablecoins such as USDT and USDC so the amount you charge is the amount you receive.

Best for: creators, freelancers, small catalogues, testing demand.

  1. In the gateway's dashboard, create a payment link with a title and price.
  2. Choose the coins and networks you'll accept.
  3. Add a "Pay with crypto" button on your site that opens the link.

Each customer who opens the link gets their own payment. You see who paid in the dashboard.

Option 2: a store plugin (15 minutes)

Best for: WooCommerce stores.

  1. Install the Wolf Pay plugin for WooCommerce.
  2. Paste a test secret key and the webhook signing secret.
  3. Place a test order and simulate the payment.

The plugin adds a payment method at checkout, sends the customer to a hosted checkout, and marks the order paid when the payment confirms.

Option 3: the API (an afternoon)

Best for: custom sites, SaaS, marketplaces, apps.

// On your server, when the customer clicks "Pay with crypto"
const res = await fetch("https://wolf-pay-five.vercel.app/api/v1/payments", {
  method: "POST",
  headers: {
    Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.WOLF_PAY_SECRET_KEY}`,
    "Content-Type": "application/json",
    "Idempotency-Key": `order-${order.id}`,
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({ amount: "49.00", currency: "USDT", network: "tron", order_id: order.id }),
});
const payment = await res.json();
// Redirect the customer to payment.checkout_url

Then add a webhook endpoint that verifies the signature and marks the order paid on payment.paid. The API guide has the full flow.

Before you go live

  • Test every outcome: paid in full, underpaid, overpaid, expired. A good gateway lets you simulate each in test mode.
  • Decide how you'll handle underpayments. Many customers pay from exchanges that subtract a withdrawal fee, so the payment arrives slightly short.
  • Write a refund policy. There are no chargebacks, so customers will trust a clear policy.
  • Show the network clearly on your own checkout page if you list coins there.
  • Secure your account: two-factor authentication, and API keys that can't move money.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a crypto wallet to accept crypto payments on my website?

Not with a gateway. Payments are credited to your gateway balance, and you send them to your own wallet when you choose.

Can I accept crypto payments on Shopify?

Wolf Pay has no Shopify app yet. You can link to a Wolf Pay payment link or invoice from your Shopify store in the meantime.

Is it legal to accept crypto payments on my website?

In most countries businesses can accept stablecoin payments, but tax and reporting rules differ. Record each payment at its US dollar value and ask your accountant how your country treats it.
